Project Overview
The Sletten Cancer Institute is comprised of a 54,000 SF main level building, a 7,000 SF basement, and a 5,000 SF mechanical penthouse. Central to the design is an expansive indoor healing garden featuring two fountain pool areas. The institute also boasts a unique resource and information library housed within a distinctive structural steel cone-shaped tower. The tower is illuminated at night through windows on all four sides, symbolizing the element of light.
A winding tile pathway leads from the entry through the resource area and into the healing garden, representing the journey towards treatment and, ultimately, a cure. This path is adorned with individual tiles engraved with sentiments and memorials from donors. Upon entering the facility, patients are welcomed by a striking six-foot square, two-sided fireplace. Adjacent to this, a 20-foot wide, hand-formed stone chimney extends to the ceiling.
